'Variety' Announces their Hitmakers of 2024

Claire Portele

It's official: Variety has shared their picks for the top Hitmakers of this year.

For those unfamiliar with Variety's Hitmaker Awards: for the past seven years, the pop culture outlet has celebrated the year in music by monitoring the charts and, in their words, recognizing the "...writers, producers, publishers, managers and executives who helped make-and break-the 25 most-consumed songs of the year, as measured by Billboard and Luminate Charts."

Among the honorees this year: country icon Lainey Wilson for "Storyteller of the Year", jazz-pop artist Laufey for the "Crossover Award" and Yung Miko for the "Trailblazer Award". The event also recognizes those that are new to the industry, like Shaboozey ("A Bar Song (Tipsy)) and Benson Boone ("Beautiful Things") while still holding space for veterans like Jack Antonoff (Taylor Swift, Lorde, Lana Del Rey, Sabrina Carpenter) who has been honored with the "Producer of the Decade" award.

The awards don't only acknowledge artists for their art, but for their humanitarian efforts. This year, Quavo, Jelly Roll, and RAYE have been honored with awards that take note of their work in an outside the industry. Rapper Quavo is the "Humanitarian of the Year" for his gun control work, Jelly Roll is "Changemaker of the Year" for his work with addiction and recovery, and RAYE is a "Triple Threat" for her work as an artist and advocacy for those in the songwriting industry.
