Julia Michaels is head over heels in love in her new single, "Lie Like This." The single is the first she's debuted from her upcoming album, and she explores the rollercoaster of emotions experienced when falling in love.
The song details a hesitation towards a new relationship, and the feelings that come from giving in anyways. "Head on your shoulder, trying not to unfold / I'm spillin' over, but I'm letting you know," Michaels sings in the chorus. She perfectly captures the broad range of emotions everyone goes through as they fall in love, from dealing with emotional baggage to having butterflies. She sings over a groovy track full of synths and other upbeat effects that add a contagiousness to the melody, and her captivating voice pulls her sentiment together perfectly. She explained that the song was inspired by her current boyfriend JP Saxe and the feelings she's experienced falling in love with him.
This is Michaels' first release since "If The World Was Ending" with Saxe in 2019, and various credits for songs with Selena Gomez, Kelsea Ballerini, and Dua Lipa. "Lie Like This" is the first single to be released from her upcoming album, for which the release date and name are yet to be announced - while you wait, stream and download "Lie Like This" everywhere now.
