How are you feeling about this year's music you've put out so far?
I’m very proud of the music I’ve put out this year! I’ve grown since my Ep, Cannibal, and feel much more confident in the direction I’m going. I’m very happy that I held off releasing my album, it gave us a chance to revisit the songs with a fresh pair of ears and make them better. My next second single, Pieces of a Broken Heart, will be out this November and I’ll be performing it live with my band!
The year is coming to an end! What are you doing in these last few months musically?
I’ve just shot my first official music video for Pieces of a Broken Heart directed by Guy Longstreet. That’s been a wonderful experience, I designed and sewed my own dress for it as well. I’m a fashion designer so the wardrobe is very dear to me! I finally started rehearsing with my band….. it feels like a dream come true getting to play so many of my own original songs!
What are you working on right now in the studio?
I’m working with a new producer, Zach Wolf, on a single. It’s nice to work on something completely new as I wait for the release of my album, Yours Always.
What are your studio sessions looking like these days?
Pretty chill! I’m spending my time in rehearsal rooms these days.
Is it just you when you go to record, or do you work with others?
Typically, when I’m recording vocals, it's just me and my producer. I’ll sit in on the recordings when we bring in musicians to lay down their tracks, but I like to have that intimacy when it's my time in the booth.
Who is the person that you want to work with next whether it's putting them on a track or just producing?
I’d love to work with a singer/songwriter friend of mine from India! I’ll let you know once we announce it!
How are you customizing your sound in your next tracks?
There is an organic sound to my vocals, which I really like. My producer, S. Peace Nistades, does the mixing. He made sure all the vocal nuances stayed present. I find comfort in old records and film movies. The audio sounds velvety rich, you just want to bathe in it! That’s what we try to capture.
How do you make sure that you're customizing your overall vision for your music?
I’m a part of every aspect of the writing process. Each song or collection of songs are written as a story, which gives my music a cinematic vibe. Although the lyrics are personal to me, I expand upon them to create different characters of myself and use visuals to further tell that character’s story.
What is your overall vision for yourself!?
Having creative control, collaborating with other artists, singing live in venues drenched with atmosphere and history, that for me is what I aim for in my career. My music heroes, for the most part, all come from the past. Making music for the hell of it, not for likes, clout, or for acceptance.
How are you leading with love with your music?
Though my music is covered in nostalgia and melancholy, there is always a feeling of hope in the songs. It’s a feeling, I hope, my listeners can experience for themselves and encourage them to hold on tight to their dreams. The world is constantly telling us what we can’t do, or who we can never be. I want people to know that no matter what, they control their own narrative.
